Echolocation through spines on it.  
This creature was created to explore the five senses.  Resulting in a beast that was near impossible to surprise or sneak up on.  It is covered in abrasive scale-like growths.  It had no mouth and so fed by rubbing it's body against people, stripping their flesh off, and absorbing the nutrients through it's skin.
