Their discovery was a major breakthrough for the Crown.<ref>Combat drugs were something else.  I knew something about the things, having grown up around the Academies.  They weren’t that hard to develop, but in terms of developing them ''well'', it was a different story.  Only a narrow set of them saw use in the Crown’s armed forces.  On the other hand, those forces were massive, and the drugs that were used were used a great deal, skyrocketing the doctor who devised them into untold heights of fame and power.<br><br>The rejected drugs ended up getting discarded, unless they were given to warbeasts, either in anticipation of a fight or as something injected into a special gland.  Discarded drugs sometimes saw use as something for gang leaders to use, to spice up underground fighting rings, or as something recreational, for those who wanted to cut loose. Those that do not see wide spread use or are deemed to dangerous are discarded. Some of these find their way into the underworld and surface as Street drugs.
