PAGENAME is the fourteenth chapter of Bitter Pill. ==Plot== Sy talks to Genevieve Fray on the streets of Laureas. She tries to set terms for the conversation, and he responds with questions. She promises she doesn't mean him harm, now, and questions what the Lambs will do when they inevitably arrive, whether Sy will try to trap her for them. He agrees not to. Fray warms her hands and learns Jessie's name. She disclaims responsibility for the red plague. Sy believes her. They discuss who might have designed it—maybe the Crown, seeking to punish rebels after the fact, or a single actor wanting to impose peace, who might have fled the country. Telling people that the plague germinates after blood and gunpowder would chill any violent rebellion, but Sy says he could tell the Beattle students that and just not kill many people. He asks why Fray wanted the students, and she says it was to form an underground academy that could train doctors beyond the Crown's control. Then he questions what she and Mauer were looking for, since she claimed to already know the Nobles' secret. She says learned it on her way to being a professor, that it's been discovered by rebellions before, and that the Crown has laid waste to continents to avoid losing. Sy feels confused, about what she's doing and who she is. He doesn't want to drink tea with her and Jessie. She offers to advise them on how to hurt the Crown, and he says he'll think about it. He takes out a cigarette, she remarks that he's grown older, that there are healthier habits, and then she stumbles into admitting that she won't die of Wyvern nearly as soon as Sy will. He's furious. He's known since he was seven or nine that he'd lose his mind before he was twenty-two, he worked out the Academy treated him like you would a dog, and if she can stand there a call herself a doctor five to seven—no, given advancing science, more like eight to eleven years—then there isn't anyone, actually, who's like him. And how dare she tell him what to do, even if she calls it advice. Fray... falters. Sylvester demands that she surrenders to the Lambs. That if she gives in, he won't spread the secrets she thinks will kill them all. ==Major Events== *Two rebel leaders talk in a street. <!-- ==Trivia== * list any interesting facts about this chapter here --> {|class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed wikitable" style="width:75%" ==Characters== !scope="col"| |- | ===Rebel leaders=== *Sylvester *Genevieve Fray **Dolores ===Discussed=== *Beattle *Jessie |} Reflist
